1. For all tastes
Without a doubt, Andorra is a perfect destination for cultural tourism. The museums will show you the history and culture that determine the essence of the country. Furthermore, the fact of offering a wide range of possibilities means that everyone can find the center that they are most passionate about and that suits their tastes.
And in the more than 460 km2 of the Principality you will find around twenty museums and art centers that will satisfy your cultural desires and bring you closer to Andorran traditions, history and the evolution of the country.
We invite you to immerse yourself in the past and present of this unique country and enjoy an unforgettable cultural experience.
2. The museums of Andorra
Andorra's museum offering is extraordinary. Do you want to know them all? As it is difficult to detail all the available possibilities, we present a guide with the most notable ones so that you can enjoy a unique and enriching experience:
1. The House of the Vall
History, beauty, political importance... This old house functioned for years as a parliamentary headquarters, specifically from 1702 to 2011. It was the smallest parliament in Europe while it was in operation and today allows us to understand how Andorran politics is organized. Inside we will not only appreciate the history of the house, but also learn about the history of the country itself.
2. Areny-Plandolit House Museum
It is the only example of a stately home in Andorra that has survived intact to this day, being a living testimony of Andorran aristocratic life. Luxurious rooms, lounges and gardens that evoke the elegance of the time. And who better than the protagonist himself to tell you about the vicissitudes of his life? Of the entire family line, the illustrious figure was Don Guillem de Areny-Plandolit, Baron of Senaller y Gramenet, and thanks to new technologies you can discover his intense life by combining holograms and physical objects.
3. Espai Columba
Discover how wall paintings were made during Romanesque times and, thus, learn about the Romanesque style of the Andorran valleys, in addition to offering objects of religious worship. Inside, a video map projection is offered that transports the visitor to the 12th century, showing the appearance of the church of Santa Coloma at that time.
4. The Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra
A must-see for art lovers, especially 19th and 20th century painting, it also offers high-quality temporary exhibitions covering a wide range of artistic styles, from modern to contemporary art. The museum is located on the ground floor of a building classified as a Real Estate Property by the Principality and which is one of the best examples of granite architecture in the country.
5. Postal Museum
This center offers visitors the opportunity to discover the history and evolution of postal services in Andorra. The country has the particularity of not having its own postal service and uses the Spanish and French services. A visit to the Postal Museum is an interesting way to learn about the importance and impact of postal services on the lives of Andorrans.
6. Other museums
As I said before, we cannot list all the museums because the post would take forever, although we cannot leave aside other centers that cover broad interests and tastes, with which to complete a high-level cultural trip.
For example, if you are a motor enthusiast, you cannot leave out the Andorra Automobile Museum or the Motorcycle Museum. Related to the world of transportation, the Bici Lab Andorra is home to one of the most important collections in the world regarding bicycles.
You should also not leave out the Electricity Museum, the Perfume Museum, the Miniature Museum, the Tobacco Museum (or Fábrica Reig), the Casa Rull, the Andorra Romanesque Interpretation Center, the Museum of Sacred Art and the Casa Cristo Ethnographic Museum. Just to mention a few, because the complete list is even longer…
3. Discover the PassMuseu
The best thing about having a wide range of museums, as we said for all tastes, is that many of them are included in the PassMuseu, a passport with which you can obtain juicy discounts on your next cultural events. It is a personal and non-transferable document, with a modest price of 2.5 euros, which allows you to obtain a 50% reduction on the entrance price of 3 of the museums you choose.
In addition, it is valid for one year, so you do not necessarily have to use it on your next trip to the country, but you can split it on the various occasions that you come to visit us. Remember, however, that in the vast majority of museums children under 10 years of age have free entry.
To obtain it, go to any of the tourist offices in Andorra, or get it in the museums themselves. Then, present it at the entrance of each museum to have it stamped and validate access at a reduced price. In this way, this help will surely encourage you even more to explore and discover the treasures of the Principality.
Up to 19 museums are included in the PassMuseu, such as the Casa de la Vall, the Espai Columba, the National Automobile Museum, the Miniature Museum, the Motorcycle Museum, the Electricity Museum, the Postal Museum or the Thyssen Museum in Andorra.
4. Your operations center
Although we are not talking about what is understood as active tourism, as in the case of hiking, cycling or climbing, it is also important to take rest into account when we plan a cultural trip. After delving into the past and present of the society and culture of the Principality of Andorra, having the best ally for rest is the best solution. And in this field, Daguisa Hotels is the best option for it.
Our establishments have the ideal facilities to meet your requirements and needs, and all the staff will offer you exclusive treatment to start a new cultural day. That is why I invite you to visit the Fènix Hotel 4*, located in Escaldes-Engordany, as an ideal operations center to reach all the centers and museums. Another option would be the Font d’Argent Canillo Hotel 4*, from where we could also get there comfortably.
Whatever option you choose, maximum comfort, the best services and an excellent rest are assured.
All images, except for the one corresponding to the Fènix Hotel 4*, are from VisitAndorra.
